Consultation on guidance materials

The NSW Information Commissioner is seeking feedback on two fact sheets developed to provide guidance to regulated sectors under the Government Information (Public Access) Act 2009 (GIPA Act):

Open access information

Under the GIPA Act and GIPA Regulation, agencies are required to make a range of open access information publicly available, unless there is an overriding public interest against disclosure.

The fact sheet provides guidance to assist agencies in meeting their open access information requirements. It particularly addresses the additional and specific requirements on particular sectors arising from the GIPA Regulation.

Audio visual information

Agencies are creating and holding an increasing amount of audio visual (AV) information, which, like any other information, needs to be managed to facilitate public release in line with the GIPA Act.

The fact sheet includes advice to agencies on issues to consider in providing access to AV information under the GIPA Act, managing AV information consistent with the State Records Act 1998, dealing with personal information under the GIPA Act or the Privacy and Personal Information Protection Act 1998, examples of good practice, and where to go for more information.

The consultation period is open until 31 July 2017.
