The Information and Privacy Commission NSW (IPC) supports NAIDOC Week, which celebrates the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. NAIDOC Week is celebrated not only in Indigenous communities, but by Australians from all walks of life.
The NAIDOC journey began as a movement for recognition and rights, sparked by Indigenous communities who saw a future built on justice and equality. Over the decades, it has grown into a powerful national celebration, a testament to the enduring strength of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
The 2026 theme, ‘50 Years of Deadly’, marks five decades of NAIDOC Week celebrations, recognising the Elders, organisers, artists, leaders and communities who have contributed to the movement and highlighting the resilience, survival, and cultural strength of First Nations peoples.
The IPC is committed to promoting the right to access government-held information and the protection of privacy of people within diverse communities in NSW and aims to ensure that its services to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are accessible, relevant and useful.
In support of NAIDOC Week, the IPC is highlighting resources for NSW agencies which focuses on strengthening and improving access to Stolen Generation records for survivors and descendants:
