Right to Know Week 2016

Event date

Right to Know Day (28 September 2016) is an international annual event which aims to increase awareness of individuals’ right of access to government information and open, transparent governance.

This year, NSW marks this occasion as Right to Know Week – from 26 September to 2 October – to raise awareness of the right to access government information and to spread the message of open government.

The themes for this year's campaign are:

  • Open Government in Action – Open Government is more than a right. It achieves better service delivery through information access, increases accountability and promotes citizen input to government service delivery and policy development.

To support this theme, the IPC has published a set of case studies showcasing Open Government in Action in NSW. Click here to view the Open Government in Action RTK2016 case studies.

  • You have a right to know  – citizens have a legal enforceable right to access most information held by NSW government and agencies.
