Commission NSW

The Information and Privacy Commission NSW (IPC) is an independent integrity agency that supports the NSW Information Commissioner and the NSW Privacy Commissioner to promote and protect information access and privacy rights in NSW; ensuring that agencies and individuals can access consistent information, guidance and training about information access and privacy matters.

What we do:

  • Promote and protect privacy and information access rights in NSW and provide information, advice, assistance and training for agencies and individuals on privacy and access matters
  • Review the performance and decisions of agencies and investigate and conciliate complaints relating to public sector agencies, health service providers (both public and private) and some large organisations that deal with health information
  • Provide feedback about the legislation and relevant developments in the law and technology.

What legislation we support:

The IPC supports the NSW Information Commissioner and the NSW Privacy Commissioner perform functions under the following NSW legislation:

  • Government Information (Public Access) Act 2009 (GIPA Act)
  • Government Information (Information Commissioner) Act 2009 (GIIC Act)
  • Privacy and Personal Information Protection Act 1998 (PPIP Act)
  • Health Records and Information Privacy Act 2002 (HRIP Act)
