About Privacy Awareness Week

Privacy Awareness Week will take place from 16 – 22 June 2025.

Privacy Awareness Week is a global campaign that highlights the importance of privacy and raises awareness for public sector agencies about how to protect the personal information of our citizens. Each year, the IPC hosts a campaign for NSW citizens and public sector agencies to raise awareness of privacy rights and obligations.

This year’s theme is “Privacy: It's everyone's business” and focuses on reminding all of us that privacy is a shared responsibility whether you are a member of the public or a NSW public sector employee.

Commissioner welcome

Sonia M

I am delighted to welcome you to this year's Privacy Awareness Week NSW campaign.

Privacy is everyone's business, and protecting personal information is a shared responsibility. Both individuals and organisations must stay informed and take proactive measures to safeguard data. By working together, we create a safer and more secure environment for everyone.

As individuals, it's essential to be aware of what information we share online, protect ourselves by using strong passwords and multi-factor authentication, and regularly review our privacy settings. NSW public sector agencies must ensure compliance with privacy laws, implement effective data protection measures, and foster a culture of privacy awareness within their agency. Together, we can build trust and maintain the security of personal information.

This Privacy Awareness Week, I encourage you to get involved and share the week's important message Privacy it's everyone's business. You can also get involved in events and engage your network to further promote privacy.

I look forward to celebrating the right to protect personal information and privacy with you during Privacy Awareness Week NSW 2025.

Sonia Minutillo
NSW Privacy Commissioner
